Ferris State Women's Golf In Contention After Two Rounds At NCAA D2 East Region Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team battled back on Monday (May 4) and remains in contention heading into the final round at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship being played in Findlay, Ohio.

The 18 competing teams in the regional were slated to play a single round in the 54-hole event on Monday, but potential weather over the next couple of days resulted in a full two rounds being contested on day one at the Findlay Country Club.

After opening the tournament with a first-round 326 team score, the Bulldogs came back to record a 313 figure in round two and climbed from 13th place overall into a share of fifth place with a two-round 639 figure following the first day of competition.

The top four teams at the end of the final round will move on to the NCAA Division II National Championships. Presently, the Bulldogs and Indianapolis are both only four strokes behind fourth-place McKendree (Ill.) for the final national qualifying spot.

Host Findlay sits on top of the leaderboard thru two rounds with a 605 total followed by Grand Valley State (616), Missouri-St. Louis (623) and McKendree (635) in front of FSU and UIndy. Currently, West Chester is in sixth place at 640.

The Bulldogs were led in the first two rounds by Lizzie Anderson, who is tied for seventh at 152 for the event. She shot a 78 in round one and came back with a 74 in round two.

FSU's Kylie Walker is tied for 34th in the field with a 161 total, shooting 81 in round one and 80 in round two.

Meanwhile, senior Kamryn Shannon is presently tied for 42nd overall with a 164 score as she notched an 83 in the first round and an 81 in round two.

Ferris State's Ashley Thomasma is tied for 62nd overall with a 167 figure. She shot an 83 in the first round and an 84 in the second round.

Finally, Taylor Musselman carded a 79 in the second round as a substitute for FSU and is tied for 90th on the leaderboard. Paige Anderson played the opening round and tallied an 87 for the Bulldogs, which is currently tied for 95th overall.

The third and final round is slated to begin on Tuesday (May 5) at 9 a.m. (ET) if weather permits.
