BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ferris State University women's soccer squad secured a decisive victory over Michigan Tech with a 3-0 win on Friday (Oct. 24) at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs capitalized on their offensive opportunities and the defense held strong, allowing only one shot on goal, which was successfully saved, resulting in a shutout performance.

The match kicked off with Ferris State taking the offensive, as Natalia Leavens' early shot at 2:01 was saved by Michigan Tech's goalkeeper, Bri Barrows. The Bulldogs continued to press, with Annie Hartley and Anna Thelen also testing Barrows, who kept the visitors in the contest with multiple saves.

The Huskies committed several fouls, disrupting the flow of play, and Ferris State capitalized with a corner kick try in the 25th minute. FSU finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the 39th minute when Katherine Welch scored, assisted by Bella Vallone, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Ferris State extended its lead early in the second half with a goal by Haley Buckman in the 46th minute, also assisted by Vallone. FSU continued to apply pressure, and in the 65th minute, Welch scored her fourth goal of the season and second of the contest, with Reese Carmody providing the assist.

Despite the Huskies' efforts, including shots from Ryley Winrich and Marissa Wentland, they were unable to find the back of the net. Ferris State maintained control and secured a 3-0 victory.

Welch scored twice, including the game-winning goal, and converted both her shots on target. Vallone contributed two assists, effectively setting up her teammates. Buckman added to the scoreline with one goal from two shots. Carmody recorded an assist, aiding in the team's offensive efforts.

Korinne Ihrke secured the net at the back end for FSU with one save, maintaining a clean sheet.

Barrows came up with six saves in her 90-minute appearance as MTU's goalie. Sophie Rater took the lead in offensive attempts for Michigan Tech, recording two shots with one on goal.

The Bulldogs will close out the weekend against Northern Michigan in another conference home contest on Sunday (Oct. 26) starting at 1 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
