Bulldog Soccer Battles Northern Michigan to Home Tie

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team wrapped up its weekend series Sunday (Oct. 26) with a home tie against Northern Michigan in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.
The Bulldogs (5-4-6, 5-3-3 GLIAC) fell behind early but scored twice in the first half to take a lead. A late goal from the Wildcats tied the game as FSU tied for the sixth time this year.
NMU scored first at 10:45 with a goal from Kenna Alexander. Marena Maceroni crossed a ball into the box that Alexander headed to put the Wildcats up 1-0.
FSU answered with a goal from Annie Hartley at 15:24. Haley Buckman headed a pass through the box that Hartley placed a left-footed shot on and found the lower-right corner for her first goal of the season. Buckman got her first assist as the Bulldogs tied the game.
Later in the half, at 41:19, FSU took a 2-1 lead courtesy of senior defender Ella Wolf's first career goal. Anna Thelen placed a corner kick in the box that Bella Vallone headed. After a battle for the ball, Natalia Leavens came out of the crowd with a shot into the back of the net before Wolf finished the play. Vallone got her third assist while Leavens notched her first of the day as Ferris State took a lead into halftime.
NMU tied the game at 82:56 with a goal from Madison Bilbia. Alexander assisted as the Wildcats evened the score at two goals apiece. FSU goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke made a big save at 89:19 to preserve a tie for Ferris State.
For the game, FSU had seven shots on goal, 10 corner kicks and committed 10 fouls. NMU had five shots on goal, six corner kicks and eight fouls.
Individually, Hartley led the team with two shots on goal. Irhke finished with three saves and each Vallone, Hartley, Ella Wolf, Lauren McCaul and Isabella Baron played 90 minutes.
