Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team played its regular season finale Saturday (Nov. 8) against Roosevelt University and earned a 3-0 victory over the Lakers. FSU will enter the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament as the fourth seed.
The Bulldogs (8-4-6, 8-3-3 GLIAC) registered season highs in shots (31) and tied their best marks with 10 corner kicks and three goals. Korinne Ihrke got her seventh win of the year as FSU's starting goalkeeper.
Isabella Baron scored her first goal of the year at 19:10 off a corner kick. Anna Thelen took the kick and placed the ball in the box and Baron placed a shot past RU goalkeeper Roxana Herrera to give FSU a 1-0 lead. Thelen got her third assist on the play.
Katherine Welch scored an unassisted goal at 28:43, helping the Bulldogs to a 2-0 lead at halftime. She dribbled down the side of the field and took a shot that beat Herrera for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
FSU outshot the Lakers 22-4 in the first half with five of those shots on frame. The Bulldogs also had six corner kicks compared to one for the Lakers.
At 63:07, Ella Wolf scored her second career goal to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. Natalia Leavens sent a pass from the left side of the box to Wolf at the top where she ripped a shot for the goal. Leavens got her team-leading fourth assist on Wolf's goal.
For the game, Ferris State had nine shots on goal and did not allow the Lakers a single shot on target. FSU finished with 31 total shot attempts while Roosevelt had eight. Both teams committed 16 fouls and the Bulldogs had 10 corner kicks compared to two for the Lakers.
Welch led the way with three shots on goal while both Wolf and Haley Buckman had two. Wolf played 90 minutes in the victory.
Ferris State finished the regular season in fourth place of the GLIAC standings and will host Northern Michigan in the tournament quarterfinals Tuesday (Nov. 11) beginning at 12 p.m. (ET).
