NCAA WIN! Ferris State Women's Tennis Earns First NCAA Victory In 15 Years!

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad earned its first NCAA Tournament win in 15 years on Friday (May 8) as the Bulldogs beat Rockhurst (Mo.) by a 4-2 score in the opening round of the Midwest Regional in Findlay, Ohio.

With the win, the Bulldogs advanced to the regional final versus host Findlay on Saturday (May 9) with match time set for 11 a.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs jumped in front early by claiming the doubles point in the win over the sixth-seeded Hawks. FSU's Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer claimed a 6-0 win at one doubles. Meanwhile, Ayva Johnstone and Madeline Peisley earned a 6-2 triumph at two doubles.

In the singles round, Yara Madi picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win at two singles while Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer was a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 winner at three singles. Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer then won the match in dramatic fashion with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 decision at the fourth singles spot in the lineup, saving match point in the third set to eventually clinch the win.

The win in the NCAA Tournament was FSU's first since a 2011 opening-round win over Wayne State.

The Bulldog women's team is currently midst its 24th all-time national tournament bid and its second in a row. FSU improved to 14-7 overall with the victory.
