Ferris State's Whitney Farrell Chosen To Compete At 2026 D2 National Championships
Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior runner Whitney Farrell (Freeland) has been selected to compete in the 2026 NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee has announced the participants for the 2026 championships slated to take place May 21-23 in Emporia, Kan. The event will be held at Welch Stadium and hosted by Emporia State University.
Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event. For each individual event contested, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted, and for the heptathlon and decathlon the top 16 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.
Farrell is one of 22 competitors chosen to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and holds the 17th-fastest time at 10:33.43 heading into the national championships. The women's steeplechase is slated to be contested on Thursday, May 21, at 8:10 p.m. (ET) with the finals on Friday, May 22, at 8:30 p.m. (ET).
This season, Farrell has registered a total of six top-six finishes during the outdoor campaign. She won the steeplechase at the Elaine Leigh Invite hosted by Oakland University in April and placed third at the 2026 GLIAC Outdoor Championships in the event.
