#5 Ferris State Wins Two Friday Matches To Improve To 3-0 On The Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally fifth-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad stayed unbeaten on Friday (Sept. 5) as the Bulldogs swept a pair of matches at the Patriot Classic in Tyler, Texas, to move to 3-0 on the year.

FSU won its opening match of the day over Mississippi College by a 3-0 score and then swept Texas-Dallas in evening action by an identical 3-0 score.

In the opener, the Bulldogs dominated the opening set against Mississippi College with a 25-9 margin and followed it up with a 25-18 win in the second frame and a 25-21 triumph in the third set.

The Bulldogs were led by Emily May with 11 kills and Gabby Piazza added nine kills in the victory. Setter Hayley Wegener finished with 26 assists and 11 digs while Jasmine Wellet produced 12 digs overall.

FSU hit .306 in the opening with 39 kills and only nine attack errors on 98 attempts. The Bulldogs also came up with 51 digs and finished with seven service aces and four block assists.

In the evening finale versus Texas-Dallas at the Herrington Patriot Center, Ferris State secured a 26-24 win in the opening set and wrapped up the match with identical 25-18 victories in each of the two sets that followed.

Piazza led the way for the Bulldogs with 12 kills and Emma Bleecher contributed 10 kills. Wegener netted 32 assists and three service aces. Defensively, Bleecher notched a team-high 18 digs in the contest.

The Bulldogs tallied a .313 hitting percentage in the nightcap and came up with 47 kills on 112 attempts with 12 attack errors. FSU also had 55 digs and eight aces to go with five solo blocks at the net. Both Wegener and Lyndsey Urick had two blocks apiece.

Ferris State, which is now 3-0 in the event, will conclude the Patriot Classic with a top 10 showdown versus #7 Central Oklahoma on Saturday (Sept. 6) starting at 10 a.m. (ET).
