Bulldog Athletics Community Engagement
"Giving Back To The Local Community"
Ferris State University student-athletes and teams, in partnership with General Mills Community Action, often take part in community service-related projects in an effort to "give back" to the local community. Bulldog athletes and coaches spend numerous hours in local schools and contribute to a wide array of organizations in the local area and surrounding communities.
At General Mills Community Action, they work to Nourish
Lives in our communities with breakthrough ideas, and championship
people. That means having an impact that enriches the lives of
children and families and enhances the health and vitality of
neighborhoods and cities across the U.S. Their strategic objective
is to support innovative organizations and programs that improve
our headquarters and manufacturing co
mmunities, with a focus on youth nutrition and fitness, education,
arts and culture & social services.
General Mills is a corporate leader for the United Way. Nationwide, General Mills' employees donated over $11 Million in 2007. This generosity is exemplified on a local level. Yoplait's employee's donated over $135,000 to the Mecosta-Osceola United Way in 2007. Each year, Yoplait employee's take such pride in our community that they out do their contribution from the previous year by 7-12%. Each employee realizes the importance of giving back to our community and sustaining the valuable resources of the Mecosta-Osceola United Way.
Employees at Yoplait, in addition to FSU student-athletes, give their time to help better the community by sponsoring health fairs, planting flowers in the spring, picking up trash along the highway, donating product for many, many, events, delivering flowers to the elderly, and providing the Pillsbury Dough Boy (costume) for the local city expo.
"Our mission at General Mills is Nourishing Lives - making lives healthier, easier and richer, which includes nourishing the communities in which we live," said General Mills Plant Manager Jon Woodworth. "General Mills has a rich history of supporting our communities and we are honored to partner again with FSU Athletics as they continue their outreach into the community. I look forward to the Yoplait facility in Reed City (Mich.) strengthening our partnership with FSU this year."
All of these efforts also help Ferris State Athletics fullfill
NCAA Division II's philosopy of developing students and communities
by actively engaging in shared experiences. We look forward to
broadening our community partnership and involvement with other
organizations in the area. Thanks to General Mills for their
support of Bulldog Athletics and our local community!
