Big Rapids, Mich. - The popular Ferris State University
television program, Ferris Sports Update, has returned to the
airwaves for a fourth straight season with a new format and a
new host for the 2009-10 athletics season.
Ferris Sports Update is a half-hour interview show which profiles
Ferris State Athletics. The show is produced by Ferris State
University's Television and Digital Media Production (TDMP)
students in partnership with the Bulldog Athletics Department.
This year, the show will not be produced weekly as in the past,
but will instead air periodically throughout both semesters with
three to four shows produced both in the fall and the spring.
The new format, which features 30 continuous minutes of coverage
and a single segment, will allow for expanded features and in-depth
interviews.
The host will be current FSU Associate Athletics Communications
Director Rob Bentley, who also serves as a local
radio announcer for the Bulldogs and is in his 10th year
working for Ferris State Athletics. He takes the place of
former show host and longtime radio personality Scott Roman, who
was asked to serve as a co-host for the university-wide weekly
"Ferris State Live" show airing on Fox 32 this fall.
"The television and digital media production department has
enjoyed a long history of working with the athletics department to
create applied experiences for our students through the creation of
sports programming," said faculty member Glen
Okonoski. "The continuation of the Ferris Sports
Update program is a great example of this collaboration.
"With Rob Bentley as the new host, and a new format that allows
for more in-depth features, our work together should result in an
engaging show for the audience," he added.
The 30-minute program is taped and produced in a studio within the Interdisciplinary Resource Center (IRC) Building on the FSU campus. The show will be aired locally on Ferris' Cable Television Channel at selected times during the week (see list below) and free live on-demand streaming of the show is available over the internet on a continuous basis at www.ferrisstate.tv.
Ferris Sports Update affords a unique opportunity for Bulldog fans to get information pertaining to Ferris State athletics while also providing insight from the respective FSU varsity athletic programs from its coaches, student-athletes and support staff. The show will include features on Ferris State student-athletes along with selected highlights and photos from Bulldog Athletics events.
The students in the class producing the show are under the
direction of Okonoski with assistance from department chair
Fred Wyman, engineer Pat Tobin
along with streaming media professor Connie
Morcom. Ferris Media Production faculty member
Steve Cox coordinates the airing of the show on
Ferris Cable.
The initial episode of the show, which debuted Oct. 1, featured
three current student-athletes discussing what goes on in their
daily lives at FSU. The second episode, which was taped on
Oct. 15 and will be available for on-demand streaming soon, offers
a complete season preview of the Bulldog Hockey team.
