Ferris State University Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic was recently selected to serve on the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) Board of Directors. The DII ADA is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), which is in its 45th year of existance.
Kirinovic has been a member of the Ferris State Athletics Department's staff for 27 years and has spent the last nine-plus years as the university's athletics director. He served as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) President for the 2005-06 athletics season.
Kirinovic is among 21 NCAA Division II athletics directors nationally to comprise the 2009-10 DII ADA Board of Directors.
"It's truly a privledge and a honor to represent our conference," said Kirinovic. "It's (DII ADA) a great organization and I'm proud to be helping develop and grow a relatively new organization. We want to help the Division II athletics directors become better professionals and to find our niche in the whole scope of things."
Kirinovic, who was appointed athletics director at Ferris State on November 29, 1999, is responsible for overseeing the Bulldogs' 15-sport intercollegiate athletics program. Prior to his current position, Kirinovic was the associate athletics director starting in August 1994 and then was appointed interim athletics director in mid-July 1999. He was originally appointed interim athletics director on April 8, 1993, following the retirement of then athletics director Dean Davenport.
Kirinovic completed a two-year (1992-93) stint as assistant athletics director at FSU after holding the dual position of assistant athletics director and ice arena manager from 1987-91. In 1991, he was appointed as fund raising manager in the Bulldog athletics department. Kirinovic initially began his FSU career in August 1982 by returning to his alma mater as athletic business manager.
A member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Kirinovic holds membership in the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administration (NACMA). A member of the Big Rapids (Mich.) Lions Club, Kirinovic is a past chair of the Mecosta-Osceola United Way Drive and a past president of the Big Rapids Public Schools' Board of Education.
Kirinovic has also served as a member of the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee and on the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Basketball Ranking Committee. He also is presently one of eight members on the NCAA-II National Football Committee.
The DII ADA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of Division II athletics directors.
