Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University Athletics
Department recently helped welcome incoming student-athletes to
campus by hosting a "Freshman Orientation" on Tuesday (Sept. 8)
evening at The Gate, a family entertainment center, in Big
Rapids.
All new freshmen and transfer student-athletes from FSU's 15
varsity athletics programs were encouraged to attend the event and
a variety of activities took place.
FSU Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic opened the
evening by speaking to the student-athletes about the Bulldogs'
outstanding athletics tradition and past
accomplishments.
Members of FSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) were
also on hand and spoke to the group.
Additionally, head coaches from each FSU program and other staff
members in attendance took the opportunity to talk to the
student-athletes and offered words of advice and encouragement as
they begin their Bulldog careers.
Following the hour-long orientation session, the student-athletes
were divided into teams for the first annual "Bowl-O-Rama" at The
Gate. Pizza and beverages were also provided.
In addition to the various information distributed, the event also
afforded the student-athletes on hand an opportunity to meet
athletes from other teams and created a bonding experience for the
department. The event was organized by FSU Associate
Athletics Director Jon Coles.
"Hopefully, the information presented to the student-athletes will
be helpful," said Kirinovic. "We wanted to show we value them
all as student-athletes and it was a nice way to help welcome them
to Bulldog Athletics.
"I especially want to thank our staff members for sharing their
ideas and thoughts with them," he added.
