Ferris State "Homecoming" This Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University football and men's ice hockey teams will both be in action this weekend as part of the 2011 FSU "Homecoming" activities.

The Bulldog football team returns home to host the Northern Michigan Wildcats in their annual "Homecoming" contest this Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.  Kickoff for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game is set for 2 p.m. (EDT).

Meanwhile, the Bulldog hockey team will play its home-opening series against the RPI Engineers on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 14-15) nights with both games starting at 7:05 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena. RPI is coached by a former Ferris State player in Seth Appert.

A number of special activities and events highlight Ferris' 2011 homecoming slate. Various student events will take place all week highlighted by the traditional bonfire on Wednesday (Oct. 12) night at 8 p.m. (EDT).

The Homecoming slate also includes alumni reunions for several campus organizations and groups on both Friday and Saturday.  The annual parade will be held in downtown Big Rapids on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. (EDT) prior to the football game and the Alumni & Student Homecoming Social will take place at The Gate from 7-11 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldog football team currently owns a 4-2 overall record and is 3-2 in GLIAC action heading into Saturday's tilt.  Meanwhile, the FSU hockey team is off to a 2-0 start after a pair of non-league road wins to open the campaign at St. Lawrence (N.Y.) this past weekend.

Admission to Friday night's hockey game will be free to all currently enrolled FSU students with identification. 

The FSU Alumni Association will host a pregame tailgate prior to Friday's hockey game from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the concourse of the Ewigleben Ice Arena.  Additionally, the alumni welcome tent will be located in Lot 37 at Top Taggart Field starting at 10 a.m. (ET) on Saturday and will feature a live broadcast of the "Grillin' Guys" radio show on Grand Rapids' WBBL 107.3 FM. A variety of other organizations will also hold alumni receptions in conjunction with the weekend activities.

The Bulldogs will also honor and welcome back members of the 1999 GLIAC Championship team during Saturday's football contest.  A special hockey reunion will be part of the Saturday night game activities as former players from 1990-2000 are welcomed back and introducted between the first and second periods as part of recognition for the second decade of Bulldog Hockey.
