Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University football program officially unveiled its new uniforms for the 2012 gridiron campaign in a surprise presentation during a team bonding meeting on Friday (Aug. 17) night in the auditorium of the Industrial Resource Center (IRC) building on the FSU campus near Top Taggart Field.
Senior running back Dwayne Williams (Saginaw/Heritage) and senior defensive back Jaime Barrera (Fremont, Calif./Washington) surprised teammates when they arrived 15 minutes late to the team meeting dressed in full uniform. They received a nice ovation upon entering the room. The event was staged by members of the Bulldog coaching staff along with first-year head coach Tony Annese.
The new uniforms, which are designed by Nike, include both a red and white jersey along with gold and red pants. Additionally, a new red helmet with a matte finish and black facemask displays the official "Bulldog" head logo.
The red home jerseys feature gold lettering trimmed in black while the white road uniforms have red numerals outlined in gold.
"We're excited about the new look for Bulldog football as we begin a new era," said Annese. "We're looking forward to putting the new uniforms on when we take the field on opening night on Aug. 30 in Joliet."
Ferris State will officially begin its 104th season of varsity competition and the first campaign under Annese on the road with its lone non-league game on Thursday, Aug. 30, at the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in Joliet, Ill.
The Bulldogs' 11-game schedule in 2012 features five home contests at FSU's Top Taggart Field along with six consecutive night games to open the campaign. Ferris State's home opener is scheduled for Sept. 15 when the Ashland Eagles make the trip to Big Rapids to square off against the Bulldogs. Kickoff for the initial home game is slated for 7 p.m. (ET) under the lights.
