FSU Volleyball, Football To Kickoff "Paint Big Rapids Pink" This Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University Athletics will help "Paint Big Rapids Pink" by kicking off the annual community event on Saturday (Sept. 22).

"Paint Big Rapids Pink" benefits the Susan P. Wheatlake Women's Cancer and Wellness Fund and recognizes Breast Health Awareness Month. Activities and events are planned to provide information on the importance of mammography and early detection with event proceeds helping provide cancer and wellness services to friends and neighbors.

FSU Athletics will kickoff the month-long initiative with two important events on Saturday.

First up, Bulldog Volleyball starts the action with a Diggin' on Pink match against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) newcomer Malone at 3 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.  Tickets for the volleyball match featuring the preseason league favorites and defending GLIAC North Division champions are only $5 for adults or $3 for senior citizens (65+) and students in grades K-12 at the door.

Following the volleyball match, the Bulldog football team hosts another league newcomer in Walsh University for the first-time ever at Top Taggart Field.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (ET) as FSU aims for its third win in four outings to start the 2012 campaign under new head coach Tony Annese.

Tailgating begins at 4 p.m. (ET) and a pregame tailgate show featuring "Your Mom" in concert is set for 5:45 p.m. (ET).

Tickets for Saturday's football game are currently on sale and can be obtained by contacting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888. They can also be bought online at www.startickets.com. The FSU Athletics Ticket Office is open inside the Ewigleben Sports Complex Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET) and fans can save $2 per ticket by purchasing in advance.

Football tickets in advance are only $7 adults or $5 students (age 3 to 12th grade), senior citizens (ages 65+) and FSU faculty/staff. Prices go up to $9 for adults and $7 for students ages 3 to 12th grade, senior citizens and faculty/staff on gameday.  Ferris students with ID will be admitted free by showing their student identification cards.

Parking in lots near Top Taggart Field is $5 per available space, including Lot 2 on campus this season.  As a convenience to fans, credit cards will also be accepted at the ticket window this season on gameday, but not at the concession stand.

Cancer survivors can receive admission to both events and should contact Tom Hogenson at (231) 592-4409 to receive tickets.  Halftime activities on Saturday evening will include a "Stiletto Sprint" in addition to other events.

The two events are part of a busy home weekend in Bulldog Athletics.  In addition to Saturday's volleyball and football contests, the Bulldog volleyball team will also host Walsh on Friday night (Sept. 21) at 7 p.m. with the FSU women's soccer team facing Northwood and Saginaw Valley State in league competition on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Friday's soccer contest begins at 4 p.m. with Sunday's outing set to begin at 12 p.m.

The FSU-Walsh football game will be broadcast live locally by the Bulldog Sports Network and Sunny 97.3 FM with Rob Bentley handling the play-by-play duties and Sandy Gholston offering color commentary.  A live video and audio webcast complete with internet statistics will be available through FSU's all-access video portal for a charge of $7.95 on FSU's Athletics Website at www.FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
