The Anchor-Bone Classic Takes Place This Saturday!
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University football team will visit archrival and nationally-ranked Grand Valley State for the Anchor-Bone Classic this Saturday (Oct. 6) night and a large crowd is once again expected at GVSU's renovated Lubbers Stadium.
The annual rivalry contest between the two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rivals is set for a 7 p.m. (ET) kickoff in Allendale.
The Bulldogs head into Saturday night's contest with a 3-2 record and a 2-2 league mark after a heartbreaking 31-24 overtime setback at nationally 16th-ranked Saginaw Valley State this past Saturday (Sept. 29) evening.
Meanwhile, the Lakers currently are unbeaten this season at 5-0 overall and are a perfect 4-0 in GLIAC action following a 51-43 league road victory at Michigan Tech over the weekend. They are ranked third in the nation in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II National Poll.
Tickets for Saturday's Anchor-Bone Classic are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the GVSU Ticket Office at (616) 331-3200 or online at www.gvsulakers.com.
Saturday's contest will be carried live by the Bulldog Sports Network and Sunny 97.3 FM with Rob Bentley providing the play-by-play action and Sandy Gholston offering color commentary. The broadcast begins with the Meijer Bulldog Football Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and can be accessed online at www.FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
The contest will also be televised on Comcast 900 in parts of Michigan and can also be viewed online at www.gvsulakers.com.
The Anchor Bone Trophy, which is sponsored by Huntington Bank, is awarded annually to the winner of the Ferris State-Grand Valley State football game. The trophy debuted in 2002 and GVSU has maintained possession of the trophy the last nine years with five home wins in Allendale along with four at FSU's Top Taggart Field.
GVSU holds a 27-12-1 all-time series' advantage entering Saturday's showdown and has won 11 consecutive meetings between the two schools. The Bulldogs will be making their second consecutive trip to Allendale due to the expansion of the league and revision of the conference scheduling pattern.
The FSU Alumni Association will hold a special pregame tailgate event beginning at 4 p.m. (ET) in Allendale. For more information on the alumni event, please visit the link below or call (231) 591-2345.
