Tayo Moss Among National Defensive Players Of The Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior linebacker Tayo Moss (South Rockwood/Monroe St. Mary's) has received National Defensive Player of the Week recognition following the Bulldogs' first win over Michigan Tech in 10 years last Saturday (Oct. 20) at Top Taggart Field.

Moss was one of six defensive players chosen across the country for national honors by the Beyond Sports Network following his play in the Bulldogs' 56-49 win over the 22nd-ranked Huskies.  He totaled 17 tackles in the contest and also had 1.5 tackles for loss in the victory.

Earlier this year, the Bulldogs' defensive unit was tabbed as the Division II Defense of the Week by the same online source for their efforts in a win over rival Grand Valley State (Oct. 6).

Prior to his senior campaign, Moss received preseason All-America recognition by being named to the 2012 USA Football News First Team and the Beyond Sports College Network Division II Second Team. He was also tabbed as the GLIAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in the annual D2Football.com Magazine and one of the top three players to watch in the GLIAC this fall by the Beyond Sports College Network.

A 2011 All-GLIAC First Team selection, Moss received all-conference recognition for the first time last fall after finishing the 2011 regular-season campaign as the GLIAC's leading tackler (10.7 tpg.) with 35 solo stops and 85 assisted hits for 118 total tackles.

Presently, he leads the Bulldogs in tackles, ranks third in the conference and is 15th nationally this season at 10.75 tackles per contest.  He has 34 unassisted hits, 52 assists and 86 total tackles to date this year with 5.5 tackles for loss (-11 yards), two fumble recoveries, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.  He had a school record 82-yard fumble recovery return for a score this season in a 20-14 home win over Walsh (Sept. 22).

Moss and the Bulldogs hit the road this Saturday, Oct. 27, to face defending NCAA Division II National Runner-Up Wayne State in Detroit.  Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. (ET) at Adams Field in the Motor City.

Saturday's contest will be carried live by the Bulldog Sports Network and Sunny 97.3 FM starting with the Meijer Pregame Show at 11:30 a.m.  Rob Bentley and Sandy Gholston will call the action and a live audio stream will be available at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
