FSU Hoops Teams Face Calvin In Preseason Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams will both wrap up exhibition action against the Calvin Knights on Tuesday (Nov. 8) night at different sites.

The Bulldog women will host the Knights at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids with tipoff set for 7 p.m. (ET).  Meanwhile, the men's squad will visit longtime West Michigan foe Calvin for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) tilt at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.

The men's squad has already played a pair of exhibition contests this season as FSU fell to perennial NCAA Division I power Michigan State by an 85-58 score last Sunday (Oct. 30) at the Breslin Center in East Lansing before bouncing back to record a 91-78 preseason triumph over Grace Bible on Wednesday (Nov. 2) evening at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

After Tuesday's exhibition, FSU officially opens the 2011-12 men's basketball regular-season campaign with back-to-back games against NCAA Division I competition on consecutive nights this week as the Bulldogs visit Michigan on Friday (Nov. 11) for a 7 p.m. tilt against the Wolverines in Ann Arbor followed by matchup with Central Michigan on Saturday (Nov. 12) in Mt. Pleasant.

The Bulldog women dropped a narrow 80-75 exhibition decision at NCAA Division I Oakland in its first exhibition contest this year (Oct. 29) in Rochester, Mich.  Ferris State officially opens the 2011-12 women's season by hosting regional foe Lewis (Ill.) on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.

On the men's side, Calvin returns eight letterwinners from a 2010-11 team that finished 16-12 overall and in second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with a 9-5 conference mark.  Head Coach Kevin VandeStreek's squad was picked second in the MIAA preseason poll.

Calvin's women's squad was tabbed as the MIAA preseason favorite and returns 10 letterwinners from last year's team that won 25 games.  The Knights enter the season ranked sixth by D3hoops.com and eighth by Women's Division III News.

Tickets for Tuesday's women's home exhibition tilt will be sold prior to tipoff at Wink Arena.  Adult general admission tickets are $7 or the cost is $5 for FSU faculty/staff, seniors ages 65 and up or students in grades K-12.  FSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID card.  For more information, please contact the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888.
