Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads both officially began preparations for the 2012-13 campaign by holding their first practices on Monday (Oct. 15) in FSU's Jim Wink Arena at Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldog men's basketball team, which is guided by 11th-year head coach Bill Sall, welcomes back eight letterwinners from last year's squad that won a share of a second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Championship.
Meanwhile, the Ferris State women's basketball program begins a new era under first-year head coach Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate by returning eight players from a squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament and also won the GLIAC North Division last season.
A veteran coach with 26 years of experience on the sidelines and regarded as one of the state's top prep coaches, Lamoreaux-Tate most recently spent the last seven years as the varsity girls basketball coach at Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School where she guided the Cougars to a 167-19 cumulative record.
Ferris State finished the 2011-12 women's basketball season with a 23-7 overall record, which matched the school record set previously in 2006-07 for most wins in a campaign. Last year marked the 15th time in the last 16 seasons the Bulldogs have registered double-digit wins in a campaign.
On the men's side, FSU ended the 2011-12 campaign with a 16-11 overall record after winning a share of a second-straight GLIAC North Division Championship. The Bulldogs also made their 13th all-time GLIAC Tournament berth last year, including the program's fourth-straight conference tournament appearance. Overall, Ferris State has won four league titles and made three trips to the NCAA Tournament in Sall's tenure.
