FSU Hockey Ranked Sixth In All Three Polls

Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2011-12 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has climbed in the three primary collegiate hockey polls this week after defeating nationally-ranked Lake Superior State in a 5-1 decision last Friday (Nov. 11) night followed by a 1-1 overtime tie versus the Lakers in Saturday's (Nov. 12) series finale at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

FSU is currently listed sixth nationally this week in all three collegiate hockey polls: the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO), Inside College Hockey.com (INCH) and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Division I polls.

The Bulldogs, under 20th-year head coach Bob Daniels, currently boast  a 9-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 conference mark and are among the nation's top 10 teams in the polls this week.

Ferris State climbed two spots to sixth nationally in this week's USCHO NCAA Division I poll with 725 votes. The U.S. College Hockey Online Poll consists of 50 voters encompassing 28 coaches from the NCAA Division I conferences along with 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll is published weekly by the Associated Press. FSU previously was ranked eigth last week in the USCHO poll.

The sixth-place national ranking in the USCHO poll matches the program's highest since being ranked in the same spot in the October 24th poll.  The historic 2002-03 Bulldog hockey team, which registered a school-record 31-10-1 overall mark and the program's first-ever CCHA Regular-Season Championship and NCAA Tournament berth, earned a season-high fourth place national ranking by USCHO late in that memorable season on March 10, 2003.

After being ranked eighth in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll last week, the Bulldogs jumped to the number six spot with 331 votes. The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll is conducted on a weekly basis in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world. The sixth-place ranking is the highest the Bulldogs have been in the poll this campaign.

Finally, FSU also rose from the ninth spot to sixth in the Inside College Hockey.com poll this week. Inside College Hockey.com's Poll is generated through Inside College Hockey editors and staff.

Minnesota is ranked in the top spot of the both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. Merrimack holds the number one ranking in the Inside College Hockey poll.

Ferris State will embark on its longest road trip of the season this weekend (Nov. 18-19) as the Bulldogs travel to Fairbanks, Alaska, to take on the Alaska Nanooks. Opening faceoff both Friday and Saturday is slated for 11:35 p.m. (EDT).
