Zach Redmond Feature
Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2012 American Hockey League (AHL) All-Star Classic will have representation from Ferris State University as former Bulldog men's ice hockey player Zach Redmond (Traverse City) has been chosen to play in the midseason contest.
Redmond, who played with the Bulldogs from 2007-11, currently skates with the St. John's IceCaps and is among a group of 24 players representing the AHL Eastern Conference All-Star Team.
The 2012 AHL All-Star Classic will take place Jan. 29-30 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
Redmond, 23, is in his first full season of professional hockey. The 6-2, 205-pound rearguard has played in all 32 games for the IceCaps, recording 15 points (4g, 11a), and is a plus-9, second on the team. The Michigan native played with Ferris State last season, notching 20 points in 26 games before joining the Chicago Wolves of the AHL for three games.
A 2010-11 All-CCHA First-Team performer, Redmond registered a team second-highest 20 points on a career season-best seven goals with 13 assists in 26 contests for the Bulldogs in the 2010-11 season. The 2010-11 Bulldog team captain led all Ferris defensemen in points, goals, and assists this campaign to go with four power-play markers, three game-winning lamplighters, 41 blocked shots, and a plus three efficiency rating in his final collegiate campaign. The FSU blueliner generated at least a point in 15 games last season, which featured five multiple-point game efforts.
A year ago, Redmond was chosen as the CCHA's Defenseman of the Week (Jan. 10) and landed a spot on Inside College Hockey.com's First-Half All-CCHA Team. He was tabbed as a preseason All-America Third-Team selection by Inside College Hockey.com and garnered first-team CCHA Preseason All-Conference plaudits prior to this 2010-11 campaign.
Redmond concluded his four seasons (2007-11) as a Bulldog with 90 points on 22 goals and 68 assists in 141 contests. The 2009-10 second-team All-CCHA skater chalked up 12 power-play goals, seven game-winning tallies, one short-handed lamplighter, 217 blocked shots, and a plus 22 efficiency rating. A 2009-10 MichiganCollegeHockey.com Second-Team honoree, Redmond presently ranks tied for 24th among Ferris State's scoring leaders in assists and is listed 37th in points.
A 2008 seventh-round NHL Entry Draft pick (184th overall) by the Atlanta Thrashers, Redmond originally inked a contract with Atlanta last spring and began his career skating for their top affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, of the AHL.

The 2012 AHL All-Star Classic will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League competing in an internationally televised showcase from historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Of the 562 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 93 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Dan Boyle, Daniel Briere, Ryan Callahan, Brian Campbell, Zdeno Chara, Jimmy Howard, Miikka Kiprusoff, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Pekka Rinne, Bobby Ryan, Martin St. Louis, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal, P.K. Subban and Tomas Vokoun.
