Three First-Place Teams At Home This Week!

Big Rapids, Mich. - An exciting week is ahead for Ferris State University as three Bulldog first-place teams will be in action at home, including a tripleheader on Saturday (Feb. 11).

The Bulldogs currently rank first in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division standings in both men's and women's basketball while the nationally sixth-ranked Bulldog Hockey team is on top of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) leaderboard.

FSU Basketball hosts Lake Erie for the first-time ever to start the week on Thursday (Feb. 9) with the women's game at 6 p.m. (ET) and the men's game to follow at 8 p.m. (ET).

Then, on Saturday, all three teams will be in action as the hoops teams host Ashland at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. with hockey hitting the ice to face ninth-ranked Notre Dame in a home and home series finale at 7:05 p.m.

A variety of promotions and activities will also take place in conjunction with the events this week.

For the third year in a row, Bulldog Athletics will partner with the Colleges vs. Cancer student organization to hold a "Pink Game" against Lake Erie.  Players will be in matching navy shooting shirts with the GLIAC's "Pink Wave" logo on it to help support cancer research.  Additionally, one lucky fan will have an opportunity to win $10,000 in a shot sponsored by Lake Osceola State Bank.

Saturday's basketball doubleheader versus Ashland marks FSU's final "Kidz Dayz" event sponsored by Jet's Pizza.  All children in grades K-12 are free with a paid adult and a number of special kids activities will take place, including face painting, a bounce house, photos with Brutus the Bulldog and more.

In addition to "Kidz Day", a community health fair will also take place during Saturday's men's basketball game in the concourse of the Ewigleben Sports Complex with free health screenings and education provided by the FSU Colleges of Optometry, Allied Health Sciences (Nursing & Dental Hygiene) and Pharmacy.

Fans are encouraged to wear white as part of a "Whiteout" for Saturday night's home hockey game against the Fighting Irish, which will be televised live from Big Rapids on Comcast throughout the region.  The first 800 fans will receive Bulldog Hockey Thunderstix.

Also, on Saturday, the FSU Alumni Association will hold its annual "Tailgate On Ice" from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the sports complex.  The cost for the event is $15 per person and includes a game ticket, tailgating and parking.  Season ticket holders can attend for only $5.  For more information on the tailgate event, please call Amy Packard by phone at (231) 591-2345 or email: alumni_office@ferris.edu.

The Bulldog women's basketball squad heads into the week with a 15-4 overall record and is 12-1 in GLIAC North Division play while the men's team is 13-7 overall along with 10-3 in league action.  FSU Hockey leads the CCHA with 41 total points heading into its weekend series with Notre Dame, which starts with Friday's (Feb. 10) game on the road in South Bend (Ind.) at the Compton Family Ice Arena.
