Big Rapids, Mich. - Two Ferris State University men's ice hockey players have been honored as All-Americans for their accomplishments in leading the Bulldogs to the national championship game for the first time in school history.

The nation's top 24 college hockey players were recognized as CCM Hockey All-Americans for the 2011-12 campaign on Friday (April 6) night in conjunction with the Frozen Four in Tampa and the listing included two Bulldog players in senior goaltender Taylor Nelson and senior defenseman Chad Billins.

Nelson earned first-team All-America plaudits as a member of the West Region squad while Billins was a second-team honoree.

Players from 17 different NCAA Division I programs were on the list and FSU had two of the 24 chosen overall.

The CCM Hockey All-America teams are sponsored by CCM Hockey and chosen by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA).

Nelson was one of two first-team All-America goalies and the only one from the West Region while Billins was among two defensemen on the West All-America Second Team.

This year marks the second consecutive year in which the Bulldogs have had two All-Americans in the same campaign as former standouts Pat Nagle and Zach Redmond earned the same distinction a year ago.  Nagle was a first-team pick while Redmond claimed second-team laurels last year.

Nelson and Billins represent the eighth and ninth Ferris State skaters to receive All-America laurels.  The two join the likes of Chris Kunitz (2002-03), Mike Brown (2002-03), Rob Collins (2001-02), Andy Roach (1995-96 and 1996-97), and John Gruden (1993-94) in addition to Nagle and Redmond.  With his first-team designation, Nelson represents the fifth Bulldog to claim first-team All-America honors and the second-straight goaltender to earn the honor.

Ferris State advanced to the national championship game with a 3-1 semifinal win over Union in the Frozen Four on Thursday (April 5) night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.  The Bulldogs will square off against Boston College for the national championship on Saturday (April 7) at 7 p.m. (ET) in Tampa.

Fans can watch Saturday's title game on ESPN2 or listen to the live broadcast on Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network at www.FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
