Record Crowd Expected For FSU Hockey Outing

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey program will welcome record numbers for the 2012 Bulldog Hockey Classic-Alumni Golf Outing, which will be held this Saturday (Aug. 4) at FSU's Katke Golf Course.

A total of 42 teams and nearly 170 golfers will be playing Katke Golf Course's 21-hole championship course for the 26th annual event.  The record number of golfers comes on the heels of the Bulldogs' memorable 2011-12 campaign, which included a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Regular-Season Championship and a berth into the Frozen Four for the first time where FSU reached the national championship game.

The weekend activities will get underway on Friday evening with the annual Little Kevin Softball Game at Hemlock Park in Big Rapids. The contest pits local heroes from the police and firefighters force against Bulldog Hockey alumni. There is no cost to attend and all proceeds raised from a 50/50 drawing go to the Mecosta County Community Foundation.

Those wishing to make a donation to the "Little Kevin Fund" can also mail a check payable to the MCCF at 125 N. Michigan Ave., Big Rapids, MI, 49307. A postgame reception will take place for players, family and friends at Shooters and is sponsored by the FSU Blueline Club.

Following a morning reception for former players and coaches, Saturday's golf outing begins with registration at noon followed by a 1 p.m. (ET) shotgun start at Katke Golf Course. A dinner and awards ceremony will follow at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center.

The Bulldog Hockey Classic-Alumni Golf Outing regularly draws former and notable Bulldog Hockey players for both the softball and golf events, including past standouts such as current Pittsburgh Penguins forward Chris Kunitz along with recent All-Americans now playing professionally including Zach Redmond, Pat Nagle and others.
