Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams resumed action this past weekend (Feb. 4-5) by taking part in the Division II Team Challenge hosted by the University of Findlay at the Malcolm Athletic Center in Findlay, Ohio.
The Bulldog women's had an impressive weekend as they tied for third place overall among 17 competing teams with 64 points. Meanwhile, the men's squad netted 10 team points in finishing 13th overall.
Ferris had a strong showing in the women's distance events as Samantha Johnson won the mile run (5:05.96) and Brittany Anderson took the 3,000 meters (10:08.86).
Sophomore Alyssa Osika earned runner-up laurels in the mile (5:08.37) while fellow sophomore Anna Rudd was third in the 3,000 meters (10:24.26). Paige Onweller came in fifth in the mile (5:14.71) and Shelby Janutol was sixth (5:15.91) as FSU had four of the top six finishers in the mile.
Breeann Ovokaitys placed fifth in the 3,000 meters (10:32.31) and Felicia Slate was eighth (10:47.56) as Ferris had four runners among the top eight in the 3,000 meters.
Zoey Hohmann captured third place in the 400 meters (58.40) for FSU.
The Bulldog women also won the distance medley relay (12:07.00) with a NCAA-II National Provisional Qualification time and were also seventh in the 4x400-meter relay (4:16.20).
In the men's competition, Alex Best took seventh place in the 3,000 meters (8:59.89) and the Bulldogs also placed second in the men's distance medley relay (10:33.61).
The Division II Challenge included teams not only from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in addition to teams from other regions such as Slippery Rock (Pa.), Notre Dame (Ohio), Kentucky State, Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) and more.
Ferris State will return to competition by taking part in the Grand Valley State "Big Meet" on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12, in Allendale, Mich.
