FSU Opens Season At Rebel Spring Games

Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2012 Ferris State University softball team will open its 40th season of intercollegiate competition in the Sunshine State as the Bulldogs participate in the annual Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament from March 3-10 at Kissimmee, Fla.

Ferris State will play 13 games in a eight-day period with the non-conference contests to be held between the Osceola County Softball Complex, Fortune Road Athletic Complex, and Oren Brown Park.

The Bulldogs, who will be guided by interim head coach Dawn Thompson, officially are slated to begin the 2012 season with two games on Saturday (March 3).  FSU faces Concorida-St. Paul (Minn.) in the first contest at 9 a.m. (ET) followed by a 1 p.m. (ET) matchup versus Minnesota State.

FSU posted a 24-23 overall record for the 2011 season, which included an 18-12 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division mark.

The Bulldogs, who were picked to finish third in this year's GLIAC North Division Coaches Poll, welcome back 15 returnees and eight starters this campaign.

The Bulldogs should be poised to make a run at yet another league crown as three players who earned All-GLIAC accolades last year are back in the lineup, including the reigning GLIAC Player of the Year in senior first baseman Chelsea Morris, who drove in 46 runs and had a team-leading 51 hits a season ago with nine homers.

After taking part in the Florida Rebel Spring games, the Bulldogs return to Big Rapids for a scheduled non-league home opening doubleheader versus Aquinas on March 19 at the FSU Softball Field.
