Ferris State's Sarah DeShone Claims GLIAC North Weekly Honor

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown) has been honored as this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic conference (GLIAC) North Division Women's Basketball Player of the Week, which is sponsored by Hit Trophy.

DeShone averaged 23 points per contest as the Bulldog women's basketball squad opened league play with a 1-1 mark this past week in Ohio.  She led FSU with 26 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals as the defending GLIAC North Division Champions opened conference action with a 72-61 road win at Lake Erie on Thursday (Nov. 29).

DeShone then tallied a game-high 20 points with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Bulldogs' 72-62 loss on Saturday (Dec. 1) at nationally number-one ranked Ashland.  She helped key FSU's second-half run against the Eagles as the Bulldogs trimmed a 20-point first half deficit down to only four points late in the game at one point.

For the week, she shot 44.1% (15-34) from the floor, nailed five three-pointers and hit 11-of-13 (.846) free throws.  DeShone averaged six rebounds, 3.5 assists and two steals in addition to her 23-point per game scoring average in the two contests.

Currently, DeShone is the squad's leading scorer to date this season (19.8 ppg.) and has also tallied a team-high 19 assists.

DeShone and the Bulldogs will host the Ohio Dominican Panthers in a league doubleheader on Thursday, Dec. 6.  The men's game tips off first at 6 p.m. (ET) followed by the women's contest at 8 p.m. (ET).

A "red out" has been issued for fans attending Thursday's twinbill and all Ferris State fans are encouraged to wear red in support of the Bulldogs.

Additionally, on Saturday, Dec. 8, FSU hosts the Tiffin Dragons in a twinbill with the men's contest slated for a 1 p.m. (ET) start and the women's game beginning at 3 p.m. (ET).
