Ferris State Women's Golf Moves Into Clubhouse As Leader After Two Rounds At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team overcame a nine-stroke difference in the first six holes and entered the clubhouse as the leader following day two action on Saturday (April 27) at the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships.

The Bulldogs carded a tourney-best 305 team score in Saturday's second 18 holes of action and currently hold a 626 total after two rounds at the conference championships.  The third and final round takes place on Sunday (April 28) starting at 8:30 a.m. (ET) at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Ferris State posted a 321 score in Friday's opening round and was in third place behind leader Grand Valley State and Ashland heading into the second round.  However, the Bulldogs erased the Lakers' nine-shot lead over the first six holes to grab the lead on the par 72 course measuring 5,919 yards.

FSU's 626 figure (+50) currently gives the Bulldogs a three-stroke lead over GVSU (+53) heading into final round play.  Ashland is in third place (+61) with Findlay fourth (+70) and Northwood fifth (+104) among the 10 competing schools.

The Bulldogs' Jacqueline DeBoer notched a 76 on Saturday after posting a 77 on Friday and currently sits in second place overall with a 153 total.  The individual leader remains GVSU's Kelly Hartigan with a 148 figure.

Behind DeBoer, the Bulldogs have two golfers tied for eighth place individually in Ashley Swanson and Cooper Shawen.  Swanson followed up her 81 on Friday with a 78 on Saturday while Shawen improved by five strokes, going from an opening-round 82 to a 77 in day two action.  Both have a 159 stroke total.

Finally, two other Bulldogs are tied for 10th place individually in Emily Rohdy and Libby Berens as all five FSU golfers are currently among the top 10 overall.  Rohdy posted an impressive two-over par 74 score on Saturday after an 86 on Friday while Berens recorded a 79 to go with her 81 in the first round.  Both have a 160 total after two rounds.

The GLIAC Championships are being hosted by Tiffin University. Ashland, Ferris State, Findlay, Grand Valley State, Lake Erie, Lake Superior State, Malone, Northwood, Ohio Dominican, Tiffin and Walsh are competing in the GLIAC Championships.
