Dr. Phil Walling returns for the2014-15 season as an assistant coach for both the Ferris StateUniversity men's and women's golf teams.
The 2014-15 campaign represents Walling's 16th year inan assistant coaching capacity for both the men's and women's golfprograms at Ferris State.
Dr. Walling is a professor at the Michigan College ofOptometry, which is located on the Ferris State University campus.He received his undergraduate degree form Western MichiganUniversity and his doctorate in Optometry from the University ofHouston College of Optometry and is currently the Chief of Medicaland Surgical Services at the Michigan College of Optometry. One ofhis interests is in the area of sports vision.
While in Texas, he worked with professional andcollegiate athletes in golf, tennis, basketball and footballhelping each athlete to maximize their visual performance. Heparticipated in the United States Olympic Festival while in Houstonevaluating athletes from all over the country.
Besides coaching golf, Dr. Walling has been a tennis instructorfor over 20 years and is a USPTA P-1 certified tennis professional.He has coached tennis in the college and high school ranks. He hasmaintained his tennis interests by teaching in the FSU adult tenniscamps and has also traveled with FSU's tennis teams to preseasontournaments.
