Women's Tennis Win Streak Snapped By Visiting Northwood

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team had its five-match winning streak halted on Tuesday (Sept. 18) as the Bulldogs suffered a 8-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home setback to visiting rival Northwood at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The two teams battled with a potential league lead on the line as the Timberwolves improved to 7-0 overall and in conference play with FSU falling to 5-2 overall and in the GLIAC with the setback.

Northwood built an early 3-0 advantage after the doubles round as the visitors took all three positions.  Two came by identical 8-2 scores with the other match at second doubles decided by an 8-5 count.

In singles play, the Bulldogs picked up their lone win of the day as freshman Janie Sell was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at the number five flight.

The Timberwolves, though, managed to win the other five singles contests, including a three-set victory at the top singles spot.

The Bulldogs wrapped up a four-match league homestand with the decision.

FSU is next in action this weekend (Sept. 21-23) at the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Tournament.
