Women's Tennis Moves To Doubles At ITA Regional Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team took part in day two action at the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday (Sept. 22) at Jenison High School in Jenison, Mich.

Rain shortened the event somewhat as consolation play did not take place on Saturday.

After opening the event in singles competition on Friday, the Bulldogs moved to doubles play on Saturday in two flights.

In Flight B doubles, the Bulldog tandem of Sydnie Sine and Janie Sell reached the final round before falling to Grand Valley State's Anne Marie Morin and Kristing Lucas.  They opened the event with a bye and then beat GVSU's Kali Phillips and Kelly Trapps 9-8 (5) in the quarterfinals before topping Tanya Joseph and Jessica Kruczek of Wayne State 9-8 (9) in the semifinals.

The Flight A doubles team of Laurence LeBlanc and Julie Fusik fell to Wayne State's Julia Kamenko and Alex Poissant by an 8-1 count in the round of 32.

Meanwhile, the top tandem of Ana Jan and Tabitha Simpson suffered an 8-5 setback versus Kim De Groot and Jesse Koraleski of Rockhurst in the opening round of the Flight A competition.

The regional tournament wraps up on Sunday (Sept. 23) beginning at 8:30 a.m. (ET).
