The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis
program recently added Santiago "Jaime"
Nanez as its assistant coach, according to an
announcement made by first-year head coach Chad
Berryhill.
Nanez will serve as the assistant coach for both the men's
and women's teams in addition to working as an assistant
professional at the Ferris State Racquet and Fitness
Center.
"We're excited to have Jaime on board and I'm confident he
will have a lasting impact on our program," Berryhill said.
"He will be a tremendous asset as we continue to work towards
winning championships on both the men's and women's
sides."
A native of North Texas, Nanez played collegiate tennis at
the NCAA Division II level for Southeastern Oklahoma State
University after originally beginning his college career at Collin
County Community College.
While at Southeastern Oklahoma State, he helped lead the
squad to a national ranking in his senior campaign. He
competed at both number one doubles along with several positions in
the singles lineup.
Nanez's stint at the NCAA Division II level followed two
years of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
Division I tennis at Collin County where his squad finished third
in the nation back-to-back years.
An avid sportsman, Nanez holds an Associates Degree from
Collin County CC and earned a bachelor of science degree in
recreation along with a minor in occupational safety and health
from Southeastern Oklahoma State.
In addition to his experience playing competitively at the
prep level, Nanez has also worked four years coaching at various
country clubs and fitness locations, including the Eldorado Country
Club in Texas where he served as the head tennis
professional. He has served as a private coach for many
championship and super championship juniors.
Besides tennis, Nanez's interests include fishing, camping
and various sports, specifically softball and baseball.
Nanez is certified by the United States Professional Tennis
Association (USPTA).
