Big Rapids, Mich. - Two Ferris State University women's volleyball players were named to the all-tournament team at this past weekend's (Sept. 7-8) Minnesota-Duluth Classic held in Duluth, Minn.
Senior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) and sophomore outside hitter Courtney Rehm (Portage/Central) were among the eight honorees on the all-tournament team. Host and nationally sixth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth had four selections while FSU had two and both Bemidji State along with Minnesota-Crookston tallied one each.
Sutton helped the 19th-ranked Bulldogs register a 3-1 mark in the event. The senior standout totaled 42 kills and hit an impressive .427 on 89 total attacks while averaging 3.00 kills per set. She also added seven blocks (0.50 avg.) on the weekend to go with seven digs and a service ace. Sutton had a match-high 18 kills with no errors on 22 total attacks (.818 percentage) in FSU's 3-0 sweep of Erskine (S.C.) in the final tournament match on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Rehm averaged 3.43 digs per set with 48 total on the weekend. She also contributed a team-high nine total blocks and had 26 kills along with seven service aces. The 2011 GLIAC Freshman of the Year currently ranks second on the team in blocks and digs in addition to third in kills this season.
The Bulldogs open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on the road this weekend. FSU will visit Northwood on Friday, Sept. 14, for a 7 p.m. (ET) league opener in Midland. Ferris State then heads to Hillsdale for a conference tilt on Saturday, Sept. 15, with match time set for 2 p.m. (ET).
