Ferris State Softball Earns Two Wins On Thursday At Dome Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad opened the annual Dome Invitational on Thursday (Feb. 19) with a pair of non-league wins in Rosemont, Ill.

The Bulldogs, who evened their season mark at 5-5 overall, pulled out a 4-3 win over Bemidji State in the opener before topping Minnesota Duluth 6-2 in the final game of the day.

In the opener, BSU built an early 1-0 lead and took a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh. However, the Bulldogs came up with two runs in the bottom of the inning to pull out the hit, totaling 10 hits overall to seven for the Beavers.

Ferris State got two hits each from shortstop Jayden Marlatt and first baseman Alexis Kozlowski along with two by outfielder Emma Gillard in the win. Kozlowski posted an RBI as did Ava Gardner, Molly Versluis and Ella McDonald. In the seventh, Versluis drove in the game-tying run with a sacrifice bunt single and McDonald followed with the game-winning single to left field for the Bulldogs.

FSU's Cecelia Bell tossed six innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Katie Shuboy notched the win, giving up only a single hit in one inning of work.

In the second game, the Bulldogs scored three runs in the first against Minnesota Duluth and added one more in the fifth and two in the sixth to come away with the convincing win. FSU outhit Duluth 8-4 for the game.

Both Marlatt and third baseman Bailey McCalister drove in two runs each. Marlatt finished with two hits as did second baseman Jadyn Joseph. Both Gardner and Gillard doubled while Marlatt homered in the win.

Shuboy earned the win in the circle, tossing seven innings and allowing only a single earned run on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 20), taking on Missouri S&T at 2:30 p.m. (ET) and Quincy at 7 p.m. (ET) in Rosemont.
