Ferris State Softball Runs Winning Streak To Five-Straight With Friday Sweep At Dome Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad ran its winning streak to five-straight games as the Bulldogs captured two wins on Friday (Feb. 20) at the Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.

The Bulldogs concluded the Dome Invite with a perfect 4-0 mark, beating Missouri S&T by a 10-5 score in the opener on day two followed by a 13-3 triumph in five innings against Quincy (Ill.) in the finale. Both wins were regional victories for FSU.

In game one, Ferris State scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning and broke the deadlock with four in the bottom of the sixth inning to garner the win. The Bulldogs tallied eight hits compared to seven for the Miners.

First baseman Alexis Kozlowski and outfielder Emma Gillard both had two hits for FSU. Kozlowski doubled in the win and eight different players drove in a run for the Bulldogs while Gillard scored twice in the triumph.

FSU's Addison Gillard picked up the win, giving up a single earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks in three innings of work. Sally Leask pitched one and one-third innings, allowing three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Finally, Cecelia Bell tossed two and two-thirds innings, surrendering a single earned run on two hits with a K.

In game two, the Bulldogs broke a 1-1 deadlock with three runs in the top of the third and nine more in the top of the fourth to eventually put the game away in five frames. FSU had 12 hits and gave up only four in the victory.

Emma Herremans produced three hits for the Bulldogs and knocked in two runs while Kozlowski also had two hits and drew two walks. Both Emma Gillard and Ava Gardner drove in two runs each as did Kaelinn Jozsa. Kozlowski homered, Jozsa tripled and Gillard doubled for Ferris State.

The Bulldogs' Katie Shuboy earned the win, allowing only a single earned run on two hits with five K's and four walks in four and two-thirds innings. Leask pitched one-third of an inning and gave up two runs on two hits.

With the four wins in Illinois, the Bulldogs now own a 7-5 overall record to date this year.

FSU will next head to Marion, Ill., Feb. 27-March 1 for five more games at the Bearcat Classic. The Bulldogs will face Kentucky Wesleyan and Indianapolis to open the event on Friday (Feb. 27) at 12 p.m. (ET) and 2:30 p.m. (ET), respectively.
