Ferris State Softball Drops Two League Games At Rival GVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad closed out weekend action with a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road setbacks versus rival Grand Valley State on Sunday (March 29) in Allendale.

The Lakers pulled out a 7-4 win in game one and followed with a 6-0 triumph in game two, snapping FSU's two-game league win streak.

In the opener, GVSU jumped in front 5-1 at the end of the first inning and added two runs in the fourth to take a 7-2 edge. The Bulldogs managed to score twice in the seventh, but it was not enough. The Lakers posted 14 hits compared to eight for the Bulldogs.

Outfielders Ella McDonald and Ava Gardner along with second baseman Jadyn Joseph all had two hits for the Bulldogs. First baseman Alexis Kozlowski and Joseph both knocked in a pair of runs while Gardner and Joseph both doubled in the setback.

FSU's Katie Shuboy tossed all six innings in the circle and allowed seven runs on 14 hits with three strikeouts in the setback.

In game two, the Lakers held FSU scoreless in the 6-0 decision. GVSU managed nine hits compared to six for the Bulldogs and the Lakers scored four times in the second to go with once in the third and once in the fifth.

McDonald led the Bulldogs with two hits in the game.

The Bulldogs' Cecelia Bell threw two innings and gave up no earned runs on six hits with one walk and one strikeout. Addison Gillard threw four innings and allowed one earned run on three hits with three walks.

Ferris State will visit Roosevelt on Friday (April 3) for a league twinbill starting at 2 p.m. (ET) before visiting Parkside on Saturday (April 4) for another league doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. (ET).
