Ferris State Softball Claims Big Road Sweep Over Roosevelt

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad started the weekend strong as the Bulldogs rolled to a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road sweep over Roosevelt on Friday (April 3) in Illinois.

The Bulldogs captured a 13-0 win in five innings in game one and pulled out a 10-2 victory in another five-inning affair in the nightcap.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 20-15 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

In the opening game, Ferris State scored three times in the first along with once in the second and the third in building a 5-0 edge. FSU then added eight runs in the fifth and kept RU scoreless and hitless in the contest. Ferris State finished with a 13-0 advantage in total hits.

Outfielder Emma Gillard had three hits for FSU and drove in two runs while first baseman Alexis Kozlowski along with third baseman Emma Herremans and short stop Jayden Marlatt all posted two hits and two RBI's.

Offensively, the Bulldogs got a pair of triples from Gillard along with two doubles by Herremans and one each from Kozlowski and Kennedy Wangler. Both Kennedy and Addison Wangler joined Ella McDonald and Jadyn Joseph with an RBI each.

The Bulldogs' Cecelia Bell tossed a no-hitter, striking out four and walking three in five innings of work for the win.

In game two, Ferris State picked up right where it left off in the opener as FSU scored at least one run in all five innings. FSU put a run on the board in the first, second and third frames before adding four in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Lakers, who were outhit 11-5, managed only a run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.

Kozlowski finished with three hits in game two and drove in four runs while adding a double. Gillard also tallied two RBI's and produced two hits while Joseph finished with two hits and scored twice. Three other Bulldogs also knocked in runs, including Joseph along with Marlatt and Emily Killion.

FSU's Addison Gillard earned the win in game two, allowing no earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks in four innings of action. Sally Leask pitched one inning, giving up a single run on two hits.

The Bulldogs will close out the trip to Saturday (April 4) versus Parkside. The two games have been moved to Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., due to forecasted weather and field conditions with first pitch slated for 12 p.m. (CT).
