Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team returned to the field on Monday (April 20) and earned a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road split versus Wayne State in Detroit.
The Bulldogs claimed a 6-1 win in the opener and led in game two before falling by a 7-5 count.
In game one, Ferris State came up with 13 hits and limited the Warriors to only seven in the triumph. FSU built a 6-0 lead with two runs in the first, one in the third and three more in the fifth while limiting WSU to a single run in the bottom of the fifth frame.
First baseman Alexis Kozlowski tallied three hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs while outfielder Emma Gillard had two hits and drove in three runs. Third baseman Emma Herremans also finished with a pair of hits. The Bulldogs hit three home runs, including one each from Kozlowski, Ava Gardner and Gillard. Additionally, Kozlowski also had a double for FSU.
The Bulldogs' Cecelia Bell claimed the win in the circle, throwing all seven innings with a single run allowed on seven hits. She struck out three.
Ferris State came back in the second game and took a 5-1 lead before the Warriors responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to pull within 5-3. The score stood until WSU moved in front with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and kept the Bulldogs off the board the rest of the way. WSU finished with 10 hits and FSU had six.
Herremans had two hits and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs while second baseman Jadyn Joseph also produced a pair of hits. Both Gardner and Gillard had RBI's.
The FSU trio of Sally Leask, Addison Gillard and Katie Shuboy combined to allow seven runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and three walks for Ferris State.
With the split, the Bulldogs now own a 24-17 mark and are 10-6 in conference play.
Ferris State will visit league leader Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday (April 21) for a league doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. (ET) in University Center.
