Ferris State Softball Takes Two At Davenport In Final Road Games Of Regular Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad completed a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) sweep over Davenport with a pair of wins on Saturday (May 2) in league play on the road in Caledonia.

After a home sweep over the Panthers on Friday, the Bulldogs earned a pair of wins on Saturday against DU on the road, taking game one by an 8-6 score before a 12-2 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, the Bulldogs fought back from a 3-1 deficit for the triumph. FSU scored one run in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the back up before notching four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to put the game away. Both teams finished with 10 hits each.

First baseman Alexis Kozlowski tallied three hits and three RBI's for the Bulldogs while outfielder Ava Gardner drove in two runs. Second baseman Jadyn Joseph also totaled two hits for FSU.

Kozlowski along with Joseph and shortstop Jayden Marlatt all had doubles for Ferris State while Kozlowski and Gardner homered in the win. In addition to the three RBI's by Kozlowski and two from Garnder, FSU's Ella McDonald and Emily Killion both drove in runs.

FSU's Cecelia Belll threw five and one-third innings before Katie Shuboy hurled one and two-third innings, allowing no earned runs or hits with one strikeout for the win.

In game two, Ferris State scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth before eventually ending the game with two runs in the fifth and closing the victory in six innings. FSU had eight hits compared to four for the Panthers.

Kozlowski knocked in three runs on two hits and Gardner also finished with four RBI's on two hits. The Bulldogs got a double from Gardner and two by Kozlowski along with a home run by Emma Gillard in the triumph. In addition to the four runs driven in by Gillard and three by both Gardner and Kozlowski, FSU's Marlatt and Molly Versluis both had an RBI.

Shuboy tossed all five innings for FSU with two earned runs allowed on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks for the win.

Ferris State will host Purdue Northwest on Sunday (May 3) for a league twin bill at the FSU Softball Field in the final two games of the regular season. First pitch for the opener is slated for 1 p.m. (ET).
