Ferris State Claims Big Senior Day Victory Over Parkside To Hold Onto Second Place In GLIAC Standings

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad came away with a big 85-76 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home win over Parkside on Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon in the regular-season home finale inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The two squads entered the Senior Day matchup midst a three-way tie for second place in the GLIAC standings and the Bulldogs earned the victory while improving to 19-87 overall and 13-5 in league play.

Ferris State led by a single point after the opening period, but Parkside responded and took a two-point lead at halftime. However, FSU won each of the final two quarters, outscoring the Rangers 22-17 in the third and 28-22 in the fourth frame for the triumph.

Senior Kenzie Bowers notched only the third triple-double effort in Bulldog women's basketball history in her final regular-season home game, totaling 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Her triple-double was the Bulldogs' second of the season.

Bowers was honored following the game along with fellow senior DeShonna Day, who started the contest despite being injured and played the opening seconds in a ceremonial senior day start.

The Bulldogs' junior class also had a big day as junior forward Mya Hiram recorded a game-high 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting. Fellow junior Mia Riley produced 20 points, nine rebounds and five steals in the victory and junior Elle Irwin notched 15 points and six rebounds.

FSU finished shooting 45.5% for the game and hit 10-of-33 (30.3%) three-point tries along with five-of-six (83.3%) free throws. On the opposite end, UWP shot 45% overall and went five-of-17 (29.4%) beyond the arc to go with 17-of-20 (85%) at the foul stripe.

The Bulldogs were outrebonded 44-33 for the day, but FSU also forced 21 turnovers and had only eight of its own, leading to a decisive 23-5 margin in points off miscues. It also helped Ferris State generate 19 steals and a 26-2 advantage in fast break scoring.

Parkside, which fell to 17-8 overall and 12-6 in the GLIAC, received 22 points from Cassidy Arni, who went 11-of-14 at the free throw line. Chloe Van Zeeland added 16 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double effort.

The Bulldogs will visit Wayne State on Thursday (Feb. 27) for a 5:30 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Detroit. FSU then closes the regular-season on Saturday (March 1) at Saginaw Valley State starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
