Ferris State Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Cedarville on the Road

Cedarville, Ohio – The Ferris State University women's soccer team began its season Thursday (Sept. 4) with a road contest against regional opponent Cedarville University.
CU claimed a 1-0 victory in the opener, scoring the game's lone goal in the second half of play. FSU sophomore goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke made her first collegiate appearance and recorded six saves in the loss.
Neither team scored in the first half. Both squads had three shots on goal and the Yellow Jackets took two corner kicks. Ihrke and CU keeper Kaelan Swallow each made three saves. Katherine Welch, Isabella Baron and Emmy Teolis all recorded a shot on frame in the first half.
In the second half, at 69:47, CU's Kacy Rosenthal had a penalty kick opportunity. Her first try was saved by Ihrke, and then Ihrke made another save on a follow-up shot by Rosenthal. Finally, Rosenthal's third attempt found the back of the net and the Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs were unable to even the score throughout the final 20:13 minutes and suffered a defeat in their season opener.
FSU finished the contest with five shots on goal, three corner kicks and 15 fouls. CU had seven shots on goal, two corners and 15 fouls. The Bulldogs received three yellow cards throughout the contest while the Yellow Jackets got one.
Welch and Baron each had two shots on goal while Teolis had one. Welch led the team with four shot attempts and Baron finished with three. Baron, Mae Doyle, Bella Vallone, and Ella Wolf each played all 90 minutes for FSU.
Ferris State will face Indianapolis Sunday (Sept. 7) in the home opener at the Bulldog Soccer Complex. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. (ET) start with coverage on FloCollege.
