#5 Bulldog Volleyball Opens 2025 Season On Road With Victory
Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's #5-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad opened the 2025 campaign with a road victory, topping host Texas-Tyler 3-1 at the Patriot Classic on Thursday (Sept. 4) evening.
The Bulldogs won the opening set 25-23 before falling to UTT 28-26 in the second frame. FSU answered with a 25-23 win in the third stanza and closed the victory by capturing a 25-22 win in the fourth.
Sophomore Gabby Piazza led the Bulldogs with a team-high 19 kills in the victory while also adding 13 digs. Senior Emma Bleecher added 15 kills and 16 digs for FSU and Emily May chipped in with 14 kills to go with 15 digs in the triumph for the Bulldogs.
FSU's Hayley Wegener led the Bulldogs with 46 assists in the contest and she also added 13 digs. Newcomer Jasmine Wellet finished with 14 digs and totaled six assists overall. Lilly Peterson contributed nine kills and compiled four solo blocks in addition to an assisted block at the net.
Ferris State posted a .214 attack figure overall and netted 63 kills on 173 attempts with 26 attack errors. The Bulldogs also compiled 90 digs with 57 assists and 13 solo hits at the net.
Autumn Perry led Texas-Tyler with 13 kills and Anna Arceneaux posted 20 digs. The Patriots were held to a .119 attack percentage.
The Bulldogs will play two more matches at the Patriot Classic on Friday (Sept. 5) versus Mississippi College at 1 p.m. (ET) and Texas-Dallas with the start time slated for 7 pm. (ET).
