The Ferris State University women's soccer program is presently under the direction of Matt Kellogg, who will begin his third year leading the Bulldogs this 2012 fall season.

Kellogg, who previously coached for two seasons at NCAA Division I Morehead (Ky.) State University, is the fourth head coach in the 14-year history of the FSU women's soccer program.  He's led the Bulldogs to back-to-back trips to the GLIAC Tournament in his first two seasons at the helm.

"I've spent many years with the goal of directing a college program and now I'm ready," said Kellogg.  "I'm thankful to the administration at Ferris State for giving me an opportunity to show what I can do.  I grew up in Michigan so it's going to be nice being close to a lot of my friends and relatives which I haven't seen in a while."

Kellogg quickly made an impact at Morehead State in his initial season as the 2009 Eagles team captured the program's first-ever Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) regular-season championship with a 5-0-3 conference record while posting an 8-7-4 overall mark.  Kellogg was responsible for instructing the MSU goalkeepers and turned in a commendable performance as the squad's two netminders combined for five shutouts, a 1.42 goals-against average, and a .713 save percentage in 19 matches.  Besides coaching the goalkeepers, Kellogg served as the Eagles' recruiting coordinator.

Kellogg joined the Morehead State program after spending both the 2007 and 2008 campaigns as an assistant at the University of Kentucky under current MSU head coach Warren Lipka.  He was the Wildcats' recruiting coordinator as part of his assigned duties and moved up into the head coaching position on an interim basis following Lipka's departure to Morehead State.

Prior to his stint at UK, Kellogg served three seasons (2004-07) as an assistant at Western Michigan University where he received his Master's Degree in sports administration in 2005.  He also was the head women's soccer coach at Kalamazoo (Mich.) College from December 2002 to February 2004 after being an assistant at the school for the 2002 season.  Kellogg has also spent several seasons working for the United States Olympic Development Program in various coaching roles.

A 2000 graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind., Kellogg earned his Bachelor's degree in marketing in 2000 and was a two-year letterwinner in men's soccer and also participated one season in track.  While at Butler, Kellogg studied abroad in Australia for seven months.

A highlight of Kellogg's coaching career occurred at age 22 when he was in a halo brace for 12 weeks and despite the injury was able to coach a high school soccer team to a state championship title.

Kellogg, a 1996 graduate of Plainwell (Mich.) High School, was a two-time all-state and all-conference performer in soccer at the prep level.  The team captain as a senior, Kellogg lettered four years apiece in both soccer and track along with two years in swimming and diving for the Trojans.  He also was a two-year National Honor Society member.

Kellogg is the son of Jack and Carole Kellogg of Plainwell, Mich.  He holds an United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National B License and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Advanced National Goalkeeping Certificate.
