Findlay, Ohio – The Ferris State University women's soccer team headed to Findlay, Ohio, for a road tilt Friday (Sept. 12) and finished with a 1-1 tie against the University of Findlay Oilers in regional play.
The Bulldogs (0-1-2) played in their second road contest of the young season after previously suffering a setback at Cedarville to open the campaign.
Sophomore goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke started for FSU and made three saves in 90 minutes of play. Cat Graves made five saves in goal for the Oilers.
Neither team scored in the first half. Ihrke faced two shots and made both saves, while Katherine Welch led FSU with two shots on goal and Isabella Baron had one. The Bulldogs had five total shot attempts, and the Oilers had seven.
In the second half, at 53:10, Emerson Lukomski gave Ferris State a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the season. Natalia Leavens threw the ball in to Annie Hartley, who passed ahead for Lukomski. Lukomski made two moves around Findlay defenders and fired a right-footed shot from outside the box that sailed over Graves' head and into the back of the net. Lukomski's scoring strike was her second collegiate goal and the Bulldogs' first of the season.
FSU held the lead for over 20 minutes before Findlay tied the score at 75:17 of the second half. Sydney Noble placed a left-footed shot to the top-left corner that was just out of Ihrke's reach as the Oilers drew the score to 1-1.
Both teams had one shot on goal through the remainder of the game, but Ihrke and Graves each made the save and the game finished in a 1-1 tie.
The Bulldogs finished with six shots on goal, four corner kicks and seven fouls. The Oilers had four shots on goal, four corner kicks and three fouls.
Individually, Welch had a game-high three shots on goal. Baron, Lukomski and Maurine Schneider had FSU's other shots on target. Bella Vallone, Lauren McCaul and Ella Wolf played 90 minutes, and Haley Buckman received a yellow card.
Ferris State will wrap up the weekend with another road contest Sunday (Sept. 14) against Walsh in Canton, Ohio. Game time is set for 1 p.m. (ET) and can be streamed live through FloCollege.
